Hatch – Arcanoid (2018)

  • Techno pop
  • Tech-funk
  • Alternative dance
  • Electro pop
  • Minimal synth

Comment: this batch of 11 pieces is an intense yet truly decent amalgamation of funky basses, techno-induced rough meandering synthesisers and thin hi-hats, bent electronic frequencies and modulated speeds for an example of solid electro pop, at more poppy moments with inclusion of voice and movie samples it is about something coming close to outsider synth-pop/minimal synth numbers. By its deep and obsessive manner it reminds of the best traditions of the Detroit techno and electro scene and more obscure Italo disco endeavours. Indeed, it is like a flourishing flower getting hefty fare from drifting between a rigid, machine-determined moloch and more loose, soul exposed glimpses. It is both for the listener's cerebral and bodily spheres. Behind this one-man-project is Eugene Rowlett from London, UK and the issue is a bit in the discography of Section27.

Bouwakanja – Hajiba (2013)

  • Alternative dance
  • Electronic music
  • Electro pop
  • Breaks
  • Acid electro
  • Breakbeat

Comment: an artist called Bouwakanja can be considered an interesting artist since I listened to his album Incantation. Hajiba is a massive event due to a huge range of different sounds, intense rhythms and sophisticated patterns in both sounds and rhythms, basic sounds and counterparts to it and the synergy between the compartments. It embraces as much pieces as 16. That's challenging. Similarly to C-sium's Daze Loft EP it involves droning electro intensity and strained needle-shaped and smithereens-alike rhythms being backed up by dynamics providing it a coherent adhesive matter between the more or less rugged parts. Frequently those rough elements are saturated with gloomy synthesised progressions atop giving it a more spaced-out yet eerie approach. Furthermore, the artist employs more subdued and tranquil moments to provide shifts in mood and structure. For sure, although it might be not very apparent throughout the course at times there are up some Middle Eastern motives to have surfaced here and there. Indeed, the charming clash keeps going to appear from the very beginning to the very end. He also uses human voices to warp them into something new into something more mechanical and robotic. This intriguing outing is a part of the discography of Section 27.

Illocanblo - Lightframe Loretta (2013)

9.2

/Mood music, Electronic pop, Dub-tech, Psychedelic electronica, Chill out, Downtempo, Alternative/

Comment: this batch of 14 pieces is an organic blend of spaced-out synthesizer driven flutters and thudding bass keys filled in with predominantly chill out-ish hovers and moody glides. Stylistically there are up the abovementioned elements interlaced with majestic downtempo and psychedelic electronic pop/poptronica vibes, a tiny bit otherworldly gleaming synth pop fringes and more dynamic but hypnotic dub-tech wobbles. Furthermore, the issue encompasses funny dodges with regard to sonic effects and spoken word snippets. In a word, the work is solid.

Non Dolet - Inner (2011)

8.8

/Downtempo, Chamber music, Experimental electronica, Avant-pop, Cinematic pop, Minimal, Modern classical, Ambient, Children music, Improvised music, Progressive, Electro-acoustic, Trip-hop, Film noir, Electronic pop, Crossover, Musique concrete/

Comment: An album by a classically educated Russian musician (a young woman called Alisa) is full of diverse tendencies, different sorts of shadows and sonic shards, balancing between acoustic and electronic topics, manipulating with beats and without cadences, veering from silence to less silent, from pop realms to out of pop, from solemn to earthly, from restrainted contemplations to cinematic, orchestrated hooks, sampling of a snippet of a speech by George W. Bush and awesome motorik rhythms of trains, all in all having acquired a good overview regarding different styles and genres. Yet, please do not misunderstand that the recent case is not going about a bulimic output because all is solidly articulated and channelized into a segmented soundscape which is apparently a type of grower with each following listen time. Indeed, her music can just be classified as post-crossover which seems to be very opened to everything.

Sun-inside Speed Beauty (Section27)

The Ukrainian project`s first track is named as Transparency Palm which might semantically have a reference to Faust`s first, so-called X-ray album, and the album title might referentially be related to krautrock style in a bit broader sense as well, though its surrealistic and shimmeringly sounding approach is more keen to hauntologic and sampledelic outputs rather than come to over for manipulating with motorik and hypnotic conceptions. Indeed, 13 tracks consisting of weird low-end synth effects, have been played out via high-key sonic patterns, though mainly on the lo-fi mode, remembering strongly of Cagey House, and Manuel Buerger sometimes. In fact, weird can be perceived without the weirdest ones. For example, Tragic Ceiling has been brought forth through mystical spiritual music, respectively to the Russian orthodox tradition. This track could be associated with the collaboration acts of Alexei Rafiev and Alexei Borissov (two albums under Clinical Archives).
