Interpretace - MC(OEC) (198?)

9.4

/Avant-industrial, Experimentalism, Improvised music, Avant-garde, Noise, Experimental rock/

Comment: these 3 compositions (two of them are truly lengthy ones - having the lengthiness of 25 minutes or more) straddle the border between guitar based noise and industrial music thereby reminding a little bit of an early Einstürzende Neubauten by the way. More profoundly, this recherche album is filled with repetitive and artsy guitar chords and developments, dirty riff-based overdrives, crawling effects, and improvised brown-hued noises oozing out of the slots in between those tremendous sonic examples mentioned above.

Rangers - Homemade Cassette Collages III (2009)

9.6

/Bedroom pop, Lo-fi, DIY, Psychedelia, New Weird America, Psych-rock, Avant-pop, Experimental pop/

Comment: Rangers is the project of Joe Knight from Dallas, Texas, USA whose third hometape collage is a mesmeric jam of timeless psychedelic synth rhythms and hiss-buried second hand guitars which used to be processed through filters and long analogue sonic tubes, however, sounding like a humanoid act of being billion miles away from me and you. In true, it rings like a spaced-out brother of Ariel Pink, and John Maus or one of those demented groups having been part of Bob Chaos. On the other side, on the strength of motorik propulsions there can be drawn parallels upon the likes of Neu!, and The Silver Apples. In addition to it, I recommend to listen to his earlier works either. Amazing dude indeed.

Rangers - Homemade Cassette Collages II (2008)

9.6

/Lo-fi, Shoegaze, Improvised music, Psych-rock, Drone rock, DIY, Space rock, Avant-garde, Psychedelic, Experimental rock, Alternative/

Comment: the Dallasite Joe Knight aka Rangers` a pair of lengthy tracks does reflect exactly upon the emergence of a huge array of the tape labels worldwide in recent years. The particular issue is composed of spaced-out guitar progressions, smoky synth motions and change-overs, and loosely shuffling drum sequences which in general are channelized into exhausting shamanic droning which in turn strikes with the invigorating punch. Furthermore, the listener can perceive both the timeless influences of Ariel Pink, and R Stevie Moore, and more peripheral sonic shamanists and demented folkers and shoegazers (Glenn Branca, the minimalists, The Silver Apples, A Beautiful Machine, Ducktails, Lee Noble, Jackie-O Motherfucker, for instance). In a nutshell, it is a boisterous, and dizzy envelope which provides a way of how ideal pop should sound.

Janitors Of Lunacy - 1984-'87 (2008)

9.1

/Psych-rock, Blues, Avant-rock, Noise, Psychedelia, Noise rock, Experimentalism, Motorik, Krautrock/

Comment: The Worms, Germany-based combo Janitors Of Lunacy deserve undoubtedly its name. These 14 tracks involve frantically rolling noise washes which at times will evolve into the territory of acute, ingurgitating noise. From there on fastly played psyched-out guitar chords and subtly pulsating electronica and psychedelic synths make impact on the subconsciousness of the listener making you believe in the innovativeness of rock music. No doubt, the collective seems highly to be influenced by their krautrockers` precedessors from the 70s apparently by CAN`s Tago Mago (1971). JOL`s more mellow moments remind of The Doors. More detailedly, psychedelia gets mixed up with a kind of blues drive (Back To The 50ies, for instance). On the other side, Velvet Underground`s swirling guitar feedbacks are represented on the album and some clear, high-register female voice-induced songs used to have hint at Nico. In a nutshell, discover for yourself this unsung psych-rock gem.

HLFP 03 - NEW KIDS ON THE BLOG (2008)

HLFP

9.3

/Psychedelic rock, Psychedelia, Alternative pop/rock, Trance rock, Experimental indie, Fuzz pop, Blues, Avant-rock, Lo-fi, Experimental rock, DIY/

Comment
: Homemade-Lofi-Psych is a blog/records which has been making thankful job by promoting lots of unsung yet intricate artists for some years. At New Kids On The Blog are represented 16 notches by musicians and groups who used to rock in more or less straightforward ways conveying dominantly psychedelic tunes and compelling overdrives. However, "psychedelic" is the common adjective for the miscellany being crossbreeded with the aesthetics of lo-fi/DIY, blues, space rock, improvised music, experimental indie, fusion, alternative pop, leftfield, Shoegaze, fuzz pop. The favorites of mine on it are Rangers` Volvo Jungle Mist which resembles of the doings by Ariel Pink mixed up with the connotations of trance rock , and Shalloboi`s enthralling shoegaze/power pop exploration (Angels Floating On The Head Of A Pin). It is said very exactly at the blog home site that these are musical groups who are unimpressed by the mainstream plastic pop world. The miscellany involves the array of following artists: Rancho Relaxo, St. James Infirmary, Rangers, Tapio Oksa, Barnyard, Grass Monkey, Microgramma Medium Extended, Lucas Nathan, dANIL (Todessterne 007), Pan Amp, 3XCX3 Project, Brian Andrew Marek, Shalloboi, Traummachine, Bill Rogers, Andrew Bland And Steve Logel. A splendid set.
