Glory Bound - This Too Will Fade (2011)

8.4

/Pop rock, Hard rock/

Comment: this set of 4 tracks sets up an issue of pop rock which used to run on clear-cut song structures based on quasi angry, shouting vocal lines and secure heavy guitar propulsions. Though the tradition of such kind of music is being widely practised and quite predictable the result is well accomplished. It can be compared with the likes who have had huge commercial success over the years (Bon Jovi, for instance).

They Stay Dead - Cursed (2011)

Death To False Hope
Bandcamp

8.0

/Hardcore punk, Pop punk, Hair rock/

Comment
: by watching the coverprint and considering the title of this 3-piece issue it may be seem a little bit disorientating because the topics behind it are not so atrocious, though. The tracks used to run on melodic intentions which in turn are shaped by intense rhythmic sections and pop punk guitar hooks and sleazy vocal manner. Furthermore, the singing in chorus and some bombastic guitar riffs remind of the 80`s ridiculous gigs embodied by so-called hair rock/metal/pop metal scene (Europe, Poison, Charizma). In a nutshell - not bad at all because lots of energy used to ooze out of the slots of the issue.

Pumps - Pin in the Map (2011)

Death To False Hope
Bandcamp

8.2

/Happy punk, Pop punk, Hardcore punk, Easycore/

Comment: Pumps is a quintet from Brooklyn, Big Apple, pumping up the grids of pop punk and hardcore punk all of that mixed up together. More concretely, just shouting verses in chorus are flung out backed up by the hum of lots of noodling guitars. Very straightforward and without any surprises and compliments (except one man desperately crying "f.ck you" at City of the Damned).
