Abe Lyman Orch - Never Swat A Fly (1930)

9.5

/Big Band, Jazz, Classic, Classic pop/

Comment: indeed, this track was composed 82 years ago. Inspite of the huge temporal interval I suppose the track sounds as entertaining and joyous as many decades ago, though, obviously chiming in a more exotic way. It consists of uplifting swinging and grooves set up for a big band collective. Dance music in any sense which predicted the birth of rock and roll ready to be conceived after a timespan of 25 years onward. Classic.

Don Redman Orch, V=Bill Robinson - Applette (1922)

10.0

/Big band, Jazz, Classic/

Comment: there is up one track which is to be finished off at the length of 2 minutes. It originates from the year of 1922, however, filled with brassy big band sounds, hand claps and many stepping shoes. Inspite of being a short-running piece it involves a huge amount of affective turns and poignant harmonic solutions. In a word, it is a classic one which is up to be rediscovered by the next generations. Anyway, it is a quite exotic listening experience by now.

Gene Rodemich Orch - Shanghai Shuffle (1924)

10.0

/Big band, Jazz, Mood music, Exotica pop/

Comment: Gene Rodemich (1890-1934) was a pianist and conductor from St Louis, Missouri, USA who had accomplished scores for numerous films (for Charlie Chaplin, and Frank Buck`s ones) and introduced many NBC programmes. Shanghai Shuffle is a composition to function as an example of the sequence of amusing big band-played chords embellished with more exotic seeds and shades. It is funny, pleasant, and masterfully composed. Indeed, let`s take a trip into history.

Hurtato Bros. Royal Marimba Band of Guatemala - Aida Selection (1916)

10.0

/Exotica pop, Conceptual, Classical music, Covers/

Comment: in the first place, indeed, it is a classic one because Giuseppe Verdi`s Aida gets covered with the assistance of marimbas by a Guatemalan ensemble over there. However, one of the most well-known motives of all eras gets accomplished in a fine way by any means - it has managed to restrain a possible canto, it is full of variegating colours and moods, it is soothing and exciting at the same time. Of course, this thick hiss surrounding the chords used to add lots of charming, mysterious feeling to the whole. In a word, let`s call it an instance of conceptual exotica pop. Thirdly, it is an example of pure heritage - it was recorded in 1916, the year when my maternal grandfather was born. Holy shit.

Al Jolson - Collected Works of Al Jolson (2005)

/Music hall, Vaudeville, Jazz, Classic pop, Blues, Vintage sound/

Comment
: there are Jolson`s collected works from the years of 1911-26. It is massive, 36 ditties in total. Al Jolson was the the pop star on its own in the beginning of 00s, approximately 100 years ago. The World`s Greatest Entertainer was said about him at his heyday. More detailly, jazz, blues, ragtime, vaudeville tinged songs are to pour out fun and delight, and even farcelike seeds from within the miscellany. In a word, it is a tremendous experience to listen to some of the notches being older than 100 years. A classic one by any means.
