Slutet – Psykbryt / Vilse (2010)

Bad Panda/Archive.org

Power pop Indie rock Alternative rock Electronic Remix Indietronica Art rock Indie folk Ambient pop

Lühikesele pealkirjale vaatamata on see üllitis üks paras pusle, mis ilmselt hõlmab kogu Rootsi bändi Slutet'i loomingut (erinevad EP'd pluss split k0NG'iga -- kellelt on kaks lugu) netileibeli Bad Panda all. Ka lugu nimega "Psykbryt" on meeldejääv kuulamine -- äkki ka seepärast, et selle meloodia ja harmoonia meenutavad The Chi-Lites'i lugu "Have You Seen Her?". Teine nimilugu "Vilse" seevastu oma struktuurilt on toosama eelpoolmainitet toit -- alguses kalorivaesed oreliakordid, siis teises pooles arusaamatu umpa-umpa, mis justkui tahaks areneda Beirut'iks, ent ei söanda. Ja sinna maha ta jääb.

Crash City Saints – Glow In The Dark Music (2010)

Bandcamp

Shoegaze Indie rock Alternative dance Neo-psychedelia Noise pop Dream pop Indie dance Alternative rock Fuzz pop

USA bändi 14-looline võtab ilmekalt kokku ühe (indi)muusika meeleolukama haru arengu ja kulminatsiooni. See, kuidas The Jesus And Mary Chain'i musklis mürarohke rokenroll arenes My Bloody Valentine'i juhtimisel keeruka(ma)ks jõu, seksi ja unenägude-unistuste apoteoosiks. MBV'i "Loveless" ja sellele eelnenud EP'd jätsid tuleviku tarbeks palju võimalikkusi tallele. Kevin Shields osutus indimuusika-Hegeliks. Käesolev on suurepärane näide meisterlikust shieldiaaniast. Sõõr, millelt ei tahagi maha sammuda.

India del Espacio -- El Acostumbrador: Fluidos Culturales (2010)

Embajadores de la Música Colombiana

Free folk/New Weird Columbia/Improvised music/Freak folk/Avant-folk/Psychedelic/Drone folk/Folk punk/Weird folk

Selline on ühtede kolumblaste nägemus vabafolgist ja sellepõhisest impromuusikast, mida nad Embajadores de la Música Colombiana-nimelise leibeli all on lükanud peaaegu paar dekaadi. See teos jääb pikanimelise plaadifirma keskmisesse perioodi, peegeldades tollaseid folkmuusikaga seonduvaid tendentse maailmas (plaat muuseas on üles võetud Šveitsis), ent teisalt loomulikult esitades oma nägemust.

Vaatamata žanrilisele mitmekesisusele on see korralik kraam igatpidi.

  • Latin music

Järelikult on viimatimainitu hea eeldus üllitise kuulamiseks. Normaalne helipillerkaar, mille on välja andnud Venetsueela plaadikas The Poni Republic.

Samas nende diskograafia sisaldab palju head muusikat. Alati tasub vana muusika manu pöörduda ja perrä kaeda. Antwerpen'is resideeruv Greg Houwer on üllitanud nimetet plaadifirma all kaks albumit - "Sauna Planet" oli järjekorras number kaks. Vaatasin, et artist üllitas neli kuud tagasi uue albumi – on leitav Bandcamp'ist.

  • Glitch-folk
  • Experimental folk
  • Experimental electronica
  • Abstract
  • Glitchtronica

Nicolas Bernier'i muusikaga olen kõrvuti elanud rohkem kui kümme aastat - loomulikult on see reeglina meeldiv kooseksisteerimine olnud. Rõõm on ilmselt minupoolne olnud. Vastandid keerutamas boreaalset tantsu.

  • Electro-rock
  • Indie rock
  • Alternative rock
  • Motorik
  • Alternative dance

Comment: Chilean Felipe Baradit Stevenson aka Baradit's last release Revolución Tecnológica (2018, Pueblo Nuevo) was a cohesive mix of propulsive motorik synth-pop and Air-alike sophisticated artsy pop music. Anyway, beforehand the artist had issued a batch of outings and one of them was this 4-track long (and clocking in at a 14 minute) Japanese Train EP. Similarly to the latest release it used to rely on intense bubbling of obsessive synth bass chords though on the other side it involves much "accidental" sounds like concrete sound layers, radio waves, downright electronic effects. Thirdly, it may be rougher by its sounds yet it seems to be more pop-oriented due to adding female singing and snooty guitar riffs to the blend. What's the purpose of music in general? Just to provide an alternative to war, negative energy and thoughts, to envy and aggressive intentions. Rather one would experience neurotic excitement than masochistic rational fear within a state of war. Additionally, such sort of experimental pop helps to step outside from a determined system which changes human beings into a psychologically unhealthy one. This spellbinding recombinant pop release is a part of the discography of Bump Foot.

  • Psych-rock
  • Alt-folk
  • Folk indie
  • Free folk

Comment: this 4-track outing (clocking in at a 12-minute) is a dodge into the discography of Portuguese imprint Cakes And Tapes Records from the year of 2010 which still did reflect upon the influence of the so-called New Weird movement and on the other side it goes even more backward in time to such experimental psychedelic rock combos as Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and glittering sunshine pop and doo wop harmonies from the 60s. In the first place, those occasionally loaded effervescent vocal appearances and fast changes in mood and structure remind of Panda Bear and Animal Collective and it is a blissful reverberation over the place by the Seattle-based combo. Strumming guitars and shuffly drumming are backed up by artsy electronics and woodwind instruments. And as we would see 4-5 years later Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper was produced by Sonic Boom. In a word, it is a decent issue which is very worth to be remembered even 9 years after the release. It is for your own sake to enjoy a true example of beauty in the middle of a vanity fair and chaos.

  • Acousmatic music
  • Improvised noise
  • Psycho-acoustic
  • Abstract
  • Post-industrial
  • Non-music

Comment: this 6-track issue is a split between such artists as SLP, and Austin Smith on the Italian imprint Spettro. One can hear impressive noisy orchestrations full of pulsating nodules and elliptically rounding soundscapes, elemental hurricane-alike outbursts,  signal-alike static tensions and smouldering grayish reverberations within this 40-minute body. All of that is both physically and mentally pushed forward to drill one`s cerebral hemispheres. On the other side, it can be seen from the perspective of a grasshopper who is frightened due to impending death by an oncoming lawnmower. Microscopic and macroscopic levels are set out to reflect upon each other in a destructive way. Every part of the whole reflects mirrors toward the whole, and vice versa. That`s a crazy horse.

  • Dada music
  • Avant-garde
  • Art music
  • Storytelling
  • No Wave

Comment: this set of 15 compositions is something much more than one could expect from an ordinary, smooth issue after first chords. Of course, given that these 41 minutes are released by Chinstrap Music, the imprint led by Ergo Phizmiz (the cover design is also made up by him) then one should not have been surprised at all. All those surrealistic texts and impressively shifted storytelling reflecting upon the madness and tension being prevalent around us to be resulted in something totally different through our unnerving dreams and serpentine subconsciousness. It is a fertile sole for a genuine art. Undoubtedly the cognitive dissonance used to surface more distinctly being juxtaposed to an ordinary pop assemblage at the first glimpse (a part of the whole is an obvious No Wave din, though). You know an ordinary pop issue embodies something to be hold back and there is a twisted doctor to make experiments with it. Furthermore, to employ an ordinary approach it even more provides possibilities to undermine everyday's life and its dullness. Is it either a diagnosis or an effective result it does not make sense in fact. Let's say 2 in 1. Very pro to add it to a best list of surreal/dada music.

  • Indie folk
  • Post-folk

Comment: are these ditties dreamy incantations for folksy people? What about the members of royal palace? I think the latter ones are listening to dull established music where the etiquette is more important than the essence of a sonic example. This 8-notch outing is as fancy as the dreams could be. Electronic synthesised layers and swirling effects are counterpointed by bubblegum-ish guitar handling and a sensual female voice. Indeed, the electronics and the woman's vox dictate the pace of the issue. A cute virgin goes to a well, meets a handsome bride and some months later will have a profound, long-lasting sexual intercourse with the overcoming orgasm at the end with galvanized, amplified guitars and spasmodic yet stepwise relieving electronic bubbling (at Four Woods). And the following and altogether final track Sesame Chime is just caressing after that. This is mundane and divine at the same time.

Comment: autumnal sadness and lethargy have overwhelmed our senses and sensations, all seems to be stopped or at least strongly decelerated, the long and warm summer is let behind, and there it is, an old issue being released more than 8 years ago by Ludo Maas (Multi-Panel), and Tim Dwyer (Off Land & Full-Source) on the US-based imprint No Source. Those slowly growing drone-y melodica tinged lead motives being interspersed with pastel acoustic guitar chords and exquisite electronic touches used to churn the listener's mind. Double Negative, and Radiate are enchanting pop songs, indeed, truly enchanting ones. The listener can perceive this 6-notch issue as if a minimized glimpse as a transgressive, self-thrusting catapult to get thrown into a bigger, more flourishing sonic world. Lofty fantasies used to surface after having listened to these relatively miniature developments. Yeah! Yes!

Comment: I can remember for those days approximately 20 years ago when I had been listening to Britpop. I would like to prefer to buy the tapes and actually these mediums used to be more dear than the compact discs today as well. Inside the bunch of guitar music there were represented a couple of albums of trip-hop to create a special feeling for certain moments. I did have Portishead's Dummy (1994), and Tricks Pre-Millenium Tension (1996). Actually something like that I experienced by listening to this 4-track record under Dusted Wax Kingdom. At least I could rehash the aforementioned memories. More detailedly, oneiric female singing by Marquee Gibb, smoky scratches, orchestrated panning, dusty reed organs. And all of that is adeptly backed up by fatty, almost tectonic beats. And the most important aspect to be added – the artist (Mr. Moods, and Marquee Gibb) obviously succeeded to get synergistic essence from it. I think today it could be tagged as art/sophisti-pop. Yeah, I love it.

Comment: this bunch of 53 minutes is an old recording from a Butoh theatre (Japanese dance theatre) in Sankt Peterburg, Russia taped in 2008. Undoubtedly it is an intriguing, adventorous issue though the very first minutes of it are needed to get into the point of it. In fact, what is the core and intention of this issue? How much the volume knob should be cranked up? Actually there are hidden many points into it to be found out by the listener. First of all, one can hear iterative patterns coming over your head in an enchanting way. It embarks on with a pattern of the repetitive ringing of church bells by representing it in a way to connect the mundane and heavenly aspect. There is up glitched-out debris, there are represented sounds reminding of the scrapes of metal, sometimes you can hear fascinating drones and murmuring and hectic short wave radios and mind-altering spoken words (in Finnish) which started to live their own life which later will be replaced stepwise by autumnal, a bit caliginous drone ambient and then in turn by splashing watery sounds and spatial female singing. However, the pace of the album continues to be the same – hypnotically iterative. The more you listen to it the more this magnificent world by Gosha Solntsev (a part of the art combo Noises Of Russia) opens up inside your spiritual and mental cerebral centre. The great issue is a part of the discography of Drill Records, and Haze Records (unfortunately I could not find out the link of the latter one anymore).

Comment: similarly to the project's another release Of Life's Declivity the recent case is a blend of cut-up electronic snippets and lighthearted folksy plucks. Furthermore, the 12-track issue is imbued with lo-fi and DIY aesthetic. However, it is the general description of the album. More profoundly, you can hear different minutiae from 8-bit rhythmic patterns to street music from Paris, from psychedelic electro bugs to harp driven lofty imaginations and even old-fashioned harpsichord chords stumbling over the course. Its methodological thread reminds me of the fancy Super Furry Animals though musically it is a disparate case. That's funny. At times the approach goes into a childish direction as if a stylised play for remembering all that naive and intact from your very childhood. This decent release is a part of the discography of The Daydream Generation.

Comment: Gaucho Surrealista, Un Festin Sagital, Radikal Satan, Manuel De La Pileta, Onda Bidón, Tomates Rocky, Los Siquicos Litoralenos, Manuel J. Grotesque, Musicos Del Metro, Kellies, Dadalú, Caballo Loco, Collectivo No, Ø+yn, Pibes De Merlo, Los Pastores De Gelatina, Radio Chilena, and Oso* Y Los Mongos Freneticos are the names represented on this compilation of a fairly broad extent. Thanks to an imprint, Los Emes Del Oso to whom some glimpses from Chile, and Argentina are represented over there. Lots of improvised and immediate sounds (as if straightly from the street and a carnival) make me feel alright, although the processed sounds presented over there are also fine and freely floating – from Os Mutantes-stylized avant/prog mixed Tropicàlia pop (indeed, music does not recognize the geographical borders) and old school radio chirping to murky drone and darkwave flickers to deranged psychedelic addressing and spacey theremin/analogue synth-based developments and warped ethnic/world music extravaganzas. Undoubtedly you can find out much different attitude and parochial approach (in a good sense, of course) you are not allowed to discover in Europe, and the USA. Top notch which makes me psyched out.

The Pad Foundation – Variations On A Theme (2010)

  • IDM
  • Electronic music
  • Synth-pop
  • Mood music
  • Ambient pop
  • Chilltronica

Comment: these 47 minutes do create the impression of a cohesive release while listening to it the listener can feel common parts coming from one track and then transmitting into another. By the way, this is the method of this 9-track album by using one and the same element in different tracks, so it can be admitted it is an economical approach and effective result at the same time. On the other side, although one can perceive some commonness between the tracks there are also up disparate peaks. For instance, at Scotch Mist the track is built up on revolving piano chords, dreamy female vocal samples, and synthesised orchestrations and something else even more and all of that will be evolving and co-operating through the course in an irresistible manner. It is called synergy, isn't? The following track Elastoplast is remarkably more spastic and nervous – the beats are cut-up, and glitched-out yet being backed up by a beatific sloping upward. At times there are represented slight echoes, and vague sonic effects atop the algorithm of IDM-tinged rhythms. Undoubtedly it does not suffocate the spacey keenness of the release. It reminds me of some Estonian IDM/experimental electronic romantics like Uni, and Myrakaru for the beginning of the 00s. The issue is a part of the discography of Swishcotheque. Top slab.
